Ryan loves the Olympics!
Well, Ryan has shown us that he loves to watch television. It doesn't matter where he is in the room, he wants to look at the TV. (Scary, I know.) We will put him down on his mat and he will scooch all the way around so he can see it. He has been totally enamored with the Olympics. The bright colors and enthusiastic voices and cheering seems to really catch his attention. It really is funny to watch him. Last week Ryan learned how to flip from his back onto his belly but hasn't quite figured out how to flip back. And that annoys him. He'll get it soon enough, I'm sure. Ryan also likes to stand up a lot so Daddy built the saucer for him to play in on Friday and so far he has really been enjoying it. He needs to get about 3 inches taller and he will totally be able to stand up by himself in it. He is growing and changing so quickly. When we look back at his newborn pictures we find it hard to believe it is the same baby! We are having a blast and Ryan is having so much fun with his cousins Khalid, Tariq, and Mishial. He will be sad when Khalid and Tariq leave on Wednesday. Mommy is going to AZ for work for two weeks. She leaves next Sunday. She will undoubtedly miss him more than he'll miss her. (Daddy will miss her too.) Wish us all luck.

3 Months Today!
Wow! Our little guy is 3 months old and it's been almost a month since we've updated this blog!! (Can you tell that Mommy went back to work?) A lot has happened in the last month. Ryan has been invited to 2 swim parties (Cousin Annabelle turned 2 and Cousin Alexis turned 3!), and Ryan met more of his Aunts, Uncles, and cousins in the last month. Just this weekend Ryan met Aunt Helen, Uncle Tom, cousin Chris, Aunt Jeni, Uncle Mohammed, Mishial, Khalid, and Tariq. Phew! A busy weekend!
Ryan has been doing really well at Day Care. His teachers, Miss Rosario, Miss Meredith, and Miss V. all enjoy spoiling him, as they should. They always comment how Ryan will LET YOU KNOW when he is hungry. Haha... we feel the same way.
At the beginning of last week Ryan started sleeping through the night. It has been wonderful. He usually goes to bed around 9:30 or 10 pm and stays asleep until 5 or 6 am. (Today he slept until 7:15! Mommy loves that on her day off!)
Also in the last month, Ryan has gone to see Daddy play soccer 2 times. Well, he slept for the second game but he was there for support. I'm sure Ryan will grow up loving soccer, he has Daddy and Uncle Scott to encourage him.
Mommy went to her first piano lesson in 11 years! Her teacher wants Ryan to go over next week to see how he will respond to the music and if he likes it, he may go every week with Mommy! That will be such a treat!
Ryan has really discovered his fingers now. He loves sucking on them any chance he gets! He hasn't quite figured out how to get his hands around his bib and usually just shoves his bib in his mouth. But that works, too. This weekend he was playing with his cousin, Lilliana (9 months old), she offered her fingers to him. He enjoyed putting those fingers in his mouth, too.
Our favorite thing this month is how much Ryan has been smiling. He often smiles at strangers that talk to him or coo at him, but he smiles almost constantly at Mommy and Daddy (no, it's not gas... gas makes him cry)! We are really enjoying our little one... what a treasure.
Until next time... lots of hugs and slobbery baby kisses your way!

Ryan is 2 months!
Ryan turned 2 months old on Saturday! He celebrated his big day at dinner with GiGi, Grandma Belle, Uncle Scott, Miss Sarah, and Mommy and Daddy. He had a great day after a long week. Ryan started "school" last Tuesday and he just loves his teachers, Miss Rosario, Miss V., and Miss Meredith. Mommy was sad to go back to work but Ryan likes his new friends.
Ryan also met his Aunt Lisa a few weeks ago. She came to visit for a whole week! He really had fun visiting with her and perfecting his latest trick, smiling.
Because Ryan turned 2 months, he had to get his first big round of immunizations today. He had 5 shots and 1 oral immunization. Ryan took it like a man and immediately screamed at the sight of the needle! :) Hahahhaha... Actually, it wasn't too bad. He cried at first but didn't take too long to calm back down and despite a little fussiness he seems to be doing okay. Much better than Mommy. :)
His checkup at the doctor went great. He is now 22.25 inches long and he weighs 10 lbs 10 oz. He is in the 50th percentile for weight but is under 50% for length (Daddy's genes!). Other than that, he is doing great and we won't go back to the doctor for 2 more months.
Until next time... much love.

Ryan's Baptism
Father's Day was such a special occasion for us this year. Not only was it Daddy's First Father's Day but we were able to spend the day with both Grandfather, Sir and Grandpa John. We enjoyed a great brunch at a fancy restaurant with the Grandparents, Uncle (and Godfather) Scott and Miss Sarah, and Grandma Ruth.
Later, Ryan was baptized and brought into the Catholic Church surrounded by so many friends and family. What a special evening! Fr. (Uncle) Maurice performed the baptism and Grandma Eunice played the processional hymn "Baptized by Water" while everyone sang along. There were so many people! Ryan was completely dunked into the baptismal font and he didn't even cry (much to everyone's surprise)! Grandma Belle read a special prayer, as did Godmother Frances and Godfather Scott. It was so neat for Ryan to be surrounded by so many of his loved ones, including his cousins Max, Juliette, Alexis, and Lilliana, his 3 Great Grandmothers, his Great-Great Aunt Marianne, his Great Aunts and Great Uncles, and everyone else that was there! What a day!
The evening was concluded by a reception at Ryan's house - we enjoyed such yummy food from Ryan's Great Aunt Karen, the caterer. It was such a special occasion - thanks to everyone that was there and those that sent your thoughts and prayers.

Ryan meets Grandma Belle and Grandpa John
This week has been a busy one! Ryan finally met his Grandma Belle and Grandpa John from Georgia! He has had such a fun time with them going shopping, playing, taking pictures, and of course eating as much mexican food as possible! Ryan loves playing with his Grandpa John. Grandpa John tries to keep Ryan as active as possible - standing on his tip-toes, playing with his toys, or trying his newest trick - flipping from his belly onto his back! What fun!
Ryan also got a new car this week! He loves is new Hyundai Santa Fe that Daddy and Grandpa picked out for him. He will definitely enjoy the tinted windows in this blistering Texas heat!

Ryan's Week 5!
Quote of the week from a stranger: "Welcome to the world, little guy!"
Ryan had a checkup with his fabulous pediatrician, Dr. Tina Boylston, this week and everything looks great! He is a whopping 9 pounds! Mommy and Daddy are so happy! He is 21 inches long - such a difference from the 6 pounds, 13 ounces and 19 and a half inches at birth!
In addition to that, Ryan made his first friend this week. He loves admiring his friend, the octopus, that hangs from his activity gym! He even likes to punch the rattle that is attached to one of the octopus' tentacles. He's getting good at his punches - he punched Daddy in the chin this week! Ryan is starting to stare at lights and movement more and more every day and really likes to look at faces, if even for just a few minutes.
Ryan had his first official babysitter this week (besides Grandma Margaret and Grandfather Sir). Miss Sarah came over and watched Ryan for a few hours while Mommy and Daddy went car shopping. Ryan loves Miss Sarah - they read and sang songs and did a little homework to boot!
Ryan also went to Southwest Research Institute this week (what a busy week!) to meet Daddy for lunch. He had Rudy's BBQ with "the guys" - well, the guys had BBQ, Ryan pretty much just slept. He met Miss Teresa, Miss Mary, Miss Kathy, Daddy Burkey, a bunch of Daddy's other co-workers, and saw his Great Uncle Danny too.
That's it for now. Stay tuned - soon Ryan will be meeting his Ma Belle and Papa John and I'm sure he'll have many more adventures! Until next time!

Ryan's 1 month Birthday
(actually written on Wed, May 28th)
Wow! Ryan is 1 month old today and we can't believe it! This first month has gone by so quickly! Ryan is an angel... we are so blessed to have such a sweet baby! He is growing a lot and loves to stretch every day. He enjoys being read to every afternoon and he puts up with Mommy's singing. He especially likes it when Daddy gives him a bath - it's the perfect opportunity for Ryan to give Daddy his own kind of special "shower!" He doesn't sleep through the night yet but he does sleep for 4 solid hours at a time in the night so that is really nice. Ryan had an exciting Memorial Day Weekend - he met his cousins Max, Juliette, Alexis, and Lilianna and his Aunt Lisette for the first time. They were all so cute together. Max and Julie held Ryan in their laps, Alexis liked to kiss his toes, and Lilianna enjoyed his swing A LOT! Ryan also saw his Uncle Scott again this weekend. He loves his uncles!! He has been out and about a few times this week with Mommy and he is going to have his first "professional" picture taken today (wish us luck).
Thank you to all of you for your kind words and cards and presents. We really feel loved! Here's to a wonderful month!
